The Grove and Rawdon Theatre Company is affiliated to NODA, the National Operatic and Dramatic Association. Founded in 1899, the aim of NODA is to give a shared voice to the amateur theatre sector, to help amateur societies and individuals achieve the highest standards of best practice and performance, and to provide leadership and advice to enable amateur theatre to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

LESLIE APPLEYARD, NODA REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE PRESENTS LONG SERVICE AWARDS.

Leslie Appleyard presented long service awards to some of our members at the AGM in January this year to mark their contribution to amateur theatre. Awards ranging from 10 years to 40 years service went to Ian Clarke, Irene Cluderay, Ann Garnet and Marva Bell. In addition the chairman honoured couple Michael and Jean Johnson with a gift to mark their retirement. At a later event a glass was raised to Leslie himself and he was presented with a gift as he stepped down from his role as committee member in order that he can devote more time to his duties as a NODA representative for the Airedale and Wharfedale area.

Today, NODA has a nationwide membership of approximately 3000 individuals and 2500 amateur companies, performing in venues ranging from the country's leading professional theatres to tiny village halls. The Association is administered from its Headquarters in Peterborough, with a knowledgeable and friendly staff able to deal with virtually any enquiry relating to amateur theatre.

NODA is divided into eleven regions, each headed by a regional councillor who sits on the national council, (the ruling body of the association), supported by a network of regional representatives. The Councillor in the NODA North East Region is Mr Chris Ingram, whilst contact more locally can be made through the regional representative Mr Leslie Appleyard.

NODA can offer advice and assistance in all areas of amateur theatre, including specialist insurance, discounted scripts, libretti and scores, as well as make up, theatre books, sheet music service, and theatrical gifts and mementos. Benefits of membership include access to NODA’s advice service at national and regional level, representation to government, funding agencies, rightsholders and the media, and access to conferences, workshops and seminars to help share information on best practice.
